Jake's Quarantine Picks

Matt said I couldn't recommend anything off of Disney+, so here's my top 10 list lacking Star Wars.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

dir. Steven Spielberg

PG | 1981 | USA | 115 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

My example of a perfect movie. In particular I love the characters. Marian is a badass and Salah is who you would want as a best friend. If adventure has a name, it must be "Indiana Jones."

Hook

dir. Steven Spielberg

PG | 1991 | USA | 142 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

This movie extends a well known, well loved story of Peter Pan. Robin Williams exemplifies the transition from a no-time-for-family lawyer to someone who believes in wonder again.

THE DARK KNIGHT

dir. Christopher Nolan

PG-13 | 2008 | USA | 152 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

The second installment of Nolan's Batman trilogy. Heath Ledger's dive into the Joker role is frightening. The use of dark cinematics and well done twists and turns makes you wonder what will happen next.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

dir. Frank Darabont

R | 1994 | USA | 142 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

A non-scary Stephen King story. Andy Dufrain does what is necessary to survive life in prison.

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF

dir. John Hughes

PG-13 | 1986 | USA | 103 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

What every person dreams their day off could be. This John Hughes movie is one of the most referenced in all of film.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

dir. Edgar Wright

PG-13 | 2010 | USA | 112 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

A comic book about video games turned movie. I love the references in this movie. Small details allow me to watch it multiple times and catch something new each time.

TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL

dir. Eli Craig

R | 2010 | CANADA | 89 MIN

(Available to stream now on Netflix)

Two men go to a cabin to hunt and are mistaken for killers. This funny, gory movie keeps you guessing what it actually is about.

A QUIET PLACE

dir. John Krasinski

R | 2018 | USA | 115 MIN

(Available to stream now on Hulu)

One of my favorite movies to come out in 2018. John Krazinski directs and stars in this movie across from his real world wife Emily Blunt. Suspense and sound are the name of the game on this one. I recommend watching it on a quiet night or with headphones on.

THE DESCENT

dir. Neil Marshall

R | 2005 | UK | 99 MIN

(Available to stream now on Hulu)

This is on my top scariest list of all time. I am truly terrified of spelunking because of this movie. If you feel the need to not sleep this will be for you.

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION

dir. Harold Ramis

R | 1983 | USA | 98 MIN

(Available to stream now on Hulu)

The original family road trip epic. This movie has inspired its own little mini genre that is copied about every 5 years. How far would you go to get your family to Wally World?
