The Billings Climate Coalition shares a stunning 1-hour documentary about the impacts of the 2022 flooding of Rock Creek and the Yellowstone River on the communities of Red Lodge, Gardiner, and Cooke City and on Yellowstone National Park. Made by Hugo Sindelar, film professor at MSU (Bozeman) with startling footage, the film asks local people what happened and how they have recovered. Economic, social, and environmental impacts are discussed by business people, local officials, and scientists. The rain-on-snow weather event which caused the flooding was once considered a one-in-five hundred year possibility. What are the costs of climate change, and how can we be ready for what’s ahead? The film will be followed by a panel discussion including the filmmaker and Louis Engels, Billings Water Quality Superintendent, who managed the city’s water supply during the flooding.
